With RedLou up and running it may appear as though we don't need to keep fundraising. However, we are hoping to make RedLou a sustainable endeavor the lasts many years to come. There are communities that have had mobile libraries for over 60 years. They have changed and adjusted according to the current needs of their community. RedLou will have annual expenses of nearly $10,000 (insurance, vehicle maintenance, gas, building the collection, storage of books and vehicle, and of course miscellaneous and surprise expenses).
Of course a vehicle does not last forever. We hope this current vehicle will last 10-15 years. We hope that when it comes time for a new vehicle that minimal fundraising will be necessary and therefore minimal interruption of services.
Check out these short videos to see communities who have sustained their mobile library for years.
